- The ECS provides a few extra screen modes.
-
- With OCS (Origional Chip Set), you can only use PAL or NTSC screen modes, upto
- 640x400 / 640x512. Some allow switching between PAL and NTSC, some do not.
-
- The extra screen modes are.
- 1280 pixels wide with up to 4 colours.
- (ie 1280x200 NTSC, 1280x256 PAL, or 1280x400 NTSC interlaced, 1280x512 PAL interlaced).
-
- Productivity screen mode, that produces 640x480 without flicker,
- but required a multisync monitor.
-
- It also provides a monochore, Hires screen mode (that I forget the name of,
- the A two thousand and somthing). This provides 1000x1000 resolution with
- a special monitor.
-
- The ECS also allows for 2Mb of Chip RAM, instead of 1Mb.

- The A500 has OCS as standard, the A500 plus has ECS.
- It is possible to replace the chips, but I am not sure of the revisions required.
-
-
- I hope this helps.
